31/12: Champagne Bay, Espiritu Santo Island, Vanuatu

Today was a lazy beach day. Kids went straightaway to the water, while Aleksej and I researched the neighborhood a bit. We bumped into Chris, but were not ready for a drive and chose to stay on our feet.
We’ve been surprised by the island “set up”: if one doesn’t look at the individual tropical plants growing there, the forest looks a lot like in Europe.

The beach is as good as any other so far. But Champagne Bay is famous for the air bubbles present on the water surface even at a depth. It gained its romantic name from this effect.
When I reached water, Evelyn already learned this feature and wanted to demonstrate it to me. We had to swim to some distance, further from the beach goers, because the bubbles “need” still surface. At a certain point, Evelyn stopped and said:
– Mom, now freeze and do nothing.
– I’m not moving
– Ok, do you see those bubbles around you now?
There were a few (not as extensive volume as I would expect from a glass of champagne, I have to admit), so I said yes.
– That’s all.
I was laughing out loud, so that couldn’t listen to the assumed bubbles rustling. The simplest ever presentation was it, huh 😂

This was the New Year’s Eve, so there was a gala evening at the ship, but I’ll post those pics separately as the next day we were sailing without stopping anywhere.
