Port Vila

29/12: Port Vila, Vanuatu

We are getting used to the welcoming rituals of the islanders: a warrior’s dance and a plant as an earring.

This time the left side is for married people and the right one is for singles.

What we did not expect is being welcomed by the King of this small nation. And they say he can be moody: if he doesn’t want to accept any tourists today, no one will get in. Don’t bother about a prepaid excursion. We were lucky he was in a good spirit that day 😉

We also had some free time in the village and used the chance to look around. Nowhere in these islands we saw any fence or demarcation around houses: all is common ground. They don’t have a private land. In the next pictures, we stepped into someone’s yard and didn’t realise that at the beginning. And the afternoon was dedicated to snorkelling!

Time to rest!
